Slumpzilla

Urgh. I hate reading slumps. I really do, which makes it even more annoying to be honest. It’s like your brain is saying “Hey! Look at that book you really want to read! Look at it! But you can’t read it. It’s too much effort. Do something else. Wouldn’t you rather mindlessly marathon some Australian guy playing The Sims on youtube?!” OK so that last bit might just be me, but you get my point. I’m at war with myself because I want to read it, but I also can’t be bothered.

I think part of the problem is the books I have on the go at the moment. I, like so many other bookaholics, have started three different novels and have told myself that I am not allowed to pick up another until I finish at least one of them. One I started about 3 months ago, lost, and now can’t remember what was happening, the second is one of those books that’s great while you’re reading it but doesn’t constantly tug at the back of your mind to pick it up again and the third is the worst. The third is the final book in a series I have really enjoyed reading. It was one of my most anticipated books of the year, last year, and it is actually really good. I am really enjoying it. BUT… It’s 800 pages long, which is more than a little daunting to look at and won’t fit in my bag, so I cant take it anywhere for occasional reading, and when I eventually do finish it, that’s it. It’s over. No more story. I will never again meet these characters and know what they are feeling, thinking or doing. Never get annoyed that they could just TALK to each other and solve at least some of their problems a whole lot quicker. Never want to punch that one character in the face for being so damn 2D. I’ll have to find another series that captures my imagination and keeps me reading. And I don’t want to.

This particular series is The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, so of course I’m talking about Winter (and if you’re wondering, the annoyingly simpering 2D character is Cress). 800 pages seems a bit excessive, I swear the last book I read that was that long was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and even that was a little dragged out (Oh my God, I can’t believe I just said that). That’s what it is! That’s what’s holding me back! It’s the fact that this book is so frickin long and I’m less than a quarter of the way through and I still have 600 pages to go before the end and it’s going to take me forever and in the mean time I’m getting more and more behind on my goodreads reading challenge! OK, breathe. Epiphany over. You can do this.

I WILL PERSEVERE! I will finish this book! I actually do want to know how it ends, I just need to sit down and read it. I just need to turn off the part of my brain that’s telling me it’s too much effort, yes it’s a big book but I’m already 200 pages in, that’s only 600 left to go! Positive thoughts! I will clear some time in my hectic schedule (lol), sit down and read and discover how exactly Cinder plans to defeat the woman with the super mind control powers!

Getting myself excited about reading this book again was not the intention of this post but it’s a nice twist in fate, to be honest, I’ve forgotten what the point actually was.
